NHL Playoff preview

The NHL playoffs start tomorrow, and for the 3rd consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Penguins have the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference. A few months ago they seemed destined for the 2 seed, but stumbled down the stretch. Will they have enough to make another playoff run to the finals?

I hate to say it but I have to say no. On February 18th last year, they were 27-25-6 and in 10th place in the East before changing coaches to Dan Blysma. The Penguins then proceeded to go 18-3-3 and entered the playoffs as the hottest team in the NHL. They rode that momentum all the way to the Stanley Cup championship. They just don't seem to have that same spark this year.

This year, Marc-Andre Fleury resorted to his old ways of inconsistency. He can play unbelievable 1 night, then terrible the next. Nothing showed this more than the shootout loss to Washington on March 24. Fleury played great for the entire game and the first 2 rounds of the shootout building a 2 goal lead. He then gave up 3 goals on 3 straight shots and the Pens only managed to leave with 1 point.

Last years hero, Art Ross and Con Smythe trophy winner Evgeni Malkin, has been quiet this year as well. He only played in 67 games this year and managed only 77 points. The one bright spot is that he managed 4 points (2G, 2A) on Sunday against the Islanders. It is a shame because Sidney Crosby is having the best scoring year of his career, tallying 51 this year and tying Steven Stamkos for tops in the NHL. He managed to finish with 109 points (51G, 58A) this year, 3 points behind Vancouver's Henrik Sedin for the NHL lead.

The question will now be whether or not Pittsburgh can put it all together and make a strong push towards the cup. They did get a good draw in the first round against Ottawa. The Senators have been up and down all year, but good as of late. Pittsburgh has much better depth, especially up the middle and match up well against them. This is the perfect chance for them to get everything right and get the team on the same page.

The biggest obstacle for Pittsburgh will be potential road series against Washington, New Jersey and Buffalo. Pittsburgh finished the year 0-8-2 against Wash and NJ, and was also 0-3-1 against the top 4 teams in the West. That does not look good heading into the later rounds of the playoffs.

Crosby is known to rise to the occasion in big games, and has been a force this year. The only way Pittsburgh can repeat as Stanley Cup champions is with increased play by their other 2 big stars, Fleury and Malkin. Fleury has been very solid in the playoffs the last 2 years and will need to be at his best this year. Malkin was a ghost in the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs and pulled a disappearing act in the Olympics this past February. He will need to return to his form from last year, where he won the Con Smythe and lead the league in playoff scoring.

Super Bowl Preview

First off, I would like to point out (because I am a prick) how close I was on the Championship Weekend predictions.

Actual: 31-28 Saints

Ok. I just had to get that out of my system. Lets take an advanced look at what should be an awesome Super Bowl.

6:25 EST
New Orleans Saints: 15-3 vs. Indianapolis Colts: 16-2 (-5)
Outlook: It doesn't take Tom Jackson to figure out that this will be a high scoring game. Both teams are elite at QB and have tons of weapons to get the ball to.
Biggest question mark: How much blitzing will Greg Williams do?
Drew Brees is good against be blitz but Manning is better. Brees also can be rattled by a good defense end (see Ware, DeMarcus). The Saints don't have an elite 4 man rush so they will need to bring 5-6 players consistently. Manning eats up the blitz better than any QB in the NFL though (see Jets, New York)
Key Matchup #1: Jonathan Stinchcomb vs Robert Mathis
With Freeney's looming ankle injury, it will be up to Robert Mathis to aplly pressure on Brees and squeeze the pocket. No one in the NFL is better at stepping up in the pocket and making throws than Brees. Also, New Orleans will attempt to run underneath the speed rushing Mathis, and Stinchcomb will need to push him around.
Key Matchup #2: Peyton Manning vs. Darren Sharper
2 of the best at their position in the NFL in a non-stop chess match that will last all game. Sharper is known for his ability to read quarterbacks and ball hawk as good as anyone. Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning. However, keep in mind that Manning threw 16 INTs the season and was intercepted twice by Ed Reed in the Divisional Round win over Baltimore (only 1 couted, the other was called back by a penalty). If Manning can keep Sharper guessing wrong and get behind him, goodnight.
Possible deciding factor #1: Special Teams
Pop quiz: Who is the kick and punt returner for Indianapolis?? Now how about New Orleans???
Yeah. New Orleans definitely has the advantage here. Despite his short comings as an every down back, Reggie Bush is explosive when you give him space (i.e. punt return). In week 16, Brad Smith of the jets took a kick return 106 yards and set an NFL record. If New Orleans can swing field position in their favor, or take one back, they will have a lot better chance of winning.
Possible deciding factor #2: The Final Countdown
There were no teams better in the last 2 minutes of each half of putting points on the board then Indy and N.O., nor were there 2 better QBs than Manning and Brees. This game has the "team to score last wins" tag written all over it.
Prediction: Saints 34-30; I just have this feeling that the Saints will ride the energy of this game early and jump out to a 24-10 lead at the half. Manning is the best at adjusting in the NFL. Down 30-27 with a hair over 2 minutes left, Brees will rally and score a TD to win 34-30 and give the city of New Orleans a well deserved Super Bowl.

NFL Divisonal Round

I know I missed the Divisional Playoff (the lines were pretty bad) but let’s take a look at what this weekend holds for us.
Lines as of Friday morning

Saturday 4:30 EST
Arizona Cardinals: 11-6 @ New Orleans Saints: 13-3 (-7)
Outlook: This game has all the makings of a shootout, but there really is no way it can live up to the hype. The Saints defense is well rested after taking the last month off.
Biggest Questions Mark: Health. The Saints had issues with injuries which helped lead to their losses at the end of the season. The Cards fought off injuries last week to defeat the Packers, but they will need Anquan Boldin to pull off a win this week.
Key Matchup: Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell vs. Cards rush defense.
Arizona was 17th in rush defense, and people forget that New Orleans was one of the top rushing teams this season until injuries. Sean Payton will look to a now rested Thomas and Bell to keep Warner and Fitzgerald off the field.
Prediction: Saints 31-27 With the Saints running out the clock on a tired Cards defense.

Saturday 8:15 EST
Baltimore Ravens: 10-7 @ Indianapolis Colts: 14-2 (-6)
Outlook: Will the Colts be rusty after not playing a meaning full game for a month? Will Peyton Manning be able to exploit the holes in the Baltimore secondary? Will Joe Flacco’s leaking hip allow him to post a QB rating over 10.0?
Biggest Question Mark: The Colts have lost in their first game all 3 times in the Manning era when resting their players and getting a first round bye (including last year). Will that trend continue?
Key Matchup: Baltimore front-7 blitz vs. Indianapolis O-line
The Ravens constant pressure of Tom Brady last week is what lead to the 3 INTs and strip-sack in their rout of the Pats. Indy has a great offensive line, and no one gets touched less than Manning.
Prediction: Colts win 20-17 with yet another Manning game winning drive.

Sunday 1:00 EST
Dallas Cowboys:12-5 @ Minnesota Vikings 12-4 (-3)
Outlook: Romo grew up in Wisconsin idolizing Brett Favre. Now he has to chance to knock him out of the playoffs and possibly into a permanent retirement. Adrian Peterson hasn’t had a 100-yrd game in weeks, and this would be a great time to get one.
Biggest Question Mark: Who is going to dominate the crowd? In their loss to the Eagles in this exact situation last year, nearly 1/3 of the crowd was Eagles fans. Dallas has an even bigger fan base.
Key Matchup: Dallas pass rush vs. Minnesota O-line
With Spence, Ratliff and Ware, Dallas is able to only rush 4 or 5 and get after the QB. McNabb was on the run the entire time the last 2 weeks. Farve is much less mobile but does have a quick release.
Prediction: Dallas 27-17 The pass rush is too much to handle, and Tony Romo grows up in from of our very eyes.

Sunday 4:40pm EST
New York Jets: 10-7 @ San Diego Chargers: 13-3 (-7)
Outlook: At kickoff, it will have been 2 days shy of 3 months since San Diego last lost a game. They lost to Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Denver. All 3 teams either made the playoffs, or were in the hunt until the final Sunday. If you eliminate last week and the 2 games that Indy and Cincy phoned in to end the season, the last time the Jets won a game against a good team was week 2 vs. New England. Sanchez is due for a bad game.
Biggest Question Mark: Revis will be able to cover Vincent Jackson, even though Jackson has a 6” height advantage. The question is what NY is going to do about Antonio Gates and Malcolm Floyd?
Key Matchup: Shone Green and Thomas Jones vs. San Diego rush defense
We all know Rivers and the Chargers can march up and down the field without issues. If the Jets can run the ball, control the tempo of the game, and keep the offense off the field, they might be able to win this game.
Prediction: Chargers 31-13 Sanchez returns to form and turns it over 3 times. Rivers captializes

Weekly Predictions: Week 10

ESPN is making a case that "there already is a playoff system in college football, because every week has must win games." Although I disagree, they do have a valid point. There are games every week that work out like a playoff game. But did you want to see Iowa's National Title hopes go down the tubes to Northwestern, or would you rather have seen them play a top 10 team???

Every week SI.com does a top 16 tournament bracket. I reccomend a 12 team bracket with the top 4 teams getting first round byes (just like the NFL). Imagine the intensity of Selection Sunday, held the day after the conference championship games. It would be just like college hoops. It could still be done by committee, and they could get rid of the BCS rankings system.

Anyways, lets take a look at the "playoff" games for this weekend.

NCAA
#25 West Virginia @ #5 Cincinnati (-9)
Notre Dame @ #12 Pittsburgh (-6.5)
Another big weekend in the Big East. The top 3 teams in the Big East (Cincy, WVU, Pitt) all play each other between now and Dec. 5th. It will come down to which defense will show in Cincinnati.... The one that shut down South Florida in Tampa, or the one that gave up 42 points and tons of yards to UCONN?
picks: Cincy 30-24; Pitt 27-13

#16 Utah @ #4 TCU (-19.5)
The biggest game in TCU in a looooooong time. They have a dominant defense, strong running game and an decent QB. Utah only has 1 loss this year, in Eugene to Oregon, so they are no slouch.
pick: TCU 20-10

#10 Iowa @ #11 Ohio State (-17)
Will Terrelle Pryor be able to get by the Hawkeye defense? How will a red-shirt freshman do on the road in Columbus? This game will come down to turnovers and big plays on special teams.

My Heisman pick for this week
Case Keenum - QB Houston
Last week: 40/60, 522 yrds, 3 TDs
Season: 325/458, 3815 yds, 28 TDs, 5 INT

Keenum had another 500+ yards passing last week in a last second win over Tulsa. Traling 45-37 with :21 left in the game, Keenum threw a 1 yd TD pass. They failed the 2 point conversion. After recovering the onsider, Keenum completed 2 passes to move within long field goal range. Freshman kicker Matt Hogan nailed a 51-yarder to win 46-45.
Pat Forde from ESPN has stated that people need to "get on the Case" for Keenum for Heisman. All which I have been saying for the last 6 weeks.

Bowl Projections

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh (-7)
Just a year ago, this game would have been looked at as a joke. This year, it is to be in the driver seat in the AFC North. 2 physical, talented teams that can beat you with the run or the pass. 2 good defenses that are both trying to pull the "disrecpected card" on the season. The Bengals have beaten the Ravens twice, proving they are for real. Pittsburgh has won 5 straight games and destroyed Denver in the second half Monday night. Both teams are fighting injuries on defense.
pick: Pit 23-17

Philadelphia @ San Diego (-3)
Both teams aer 5-3. Both have beaten the New York Giants. Both are loaded with talent and have shit-for-brains head coaches. This game will come down to poor clock management, and Andy Reid seems to have that down to a science.
pick: SD 27-23

Dallas @ Green Bay (+3)
How many sacks will DeMarcus Ware have this game... 6? 9? Green Bay gave up 4 sacks to Tampa, who is absolutely terrible. I am a huge Aaron Rogers supporter, but he holds the ball waaaaaay too long (kinda like Roethlisberger used to do).
pick: Dallas 31-17

New England @ Indianapolis (-3)
The great debate continues. Brady vs. Manning. Which is the better QB. Manning has 3 MVPs, 1 ring and a Super Bowl MVP. Brady has 1 MVP, 3 rings and 2 Super Bowl MVPs. Look for this to not stand up to the hype. Peyton will keep Indy in this game, but injury holes in their secondary will eventually be the end of them.

Weekly Predictions: Week 9

I have decided against picking all the games for a while. We will just do the important games with some analysis.

Uconn @ Cincinnati (-16.5)
Syracuse @ Pittsburgh (-21.5)
Louisville @ WVU (-20)
3 games of much lesser opponents. All of the remaining possible Big East champs play weak teams at home. If any of them should slip, it opens the gates for the other 2 to get into a BCS Bowl.
picks: Cincy 31-10; Pitt 27-13; WVU 45-17

LSU @ Alabama (-7.5)
This is going to be another defense struggle for both these teams. Neither has been overly effective this season on offense. Look for a low scoring rumble between these 2.

Ohio State @ Penn State (-3.5)
This outcome of this game will seal the fate of the other within the Big 10. If OSU pulls off the upset, PSU goes to 2 losses in the Big-10 and has no chance of winning it. If Penn State wins, the Buckeyes pick up their second loss on the season and still have Iowa to play. These teams are evenly matched, except at QB. Daryll Clark is what Terrelle Pryor needs to be in 2 years.

Oregon @ Stanford (+6.5)
Oregon could have a major let down a week after wiping the field with USC last Saturday in Eugene. Despite being a push over for the last 15 years, Stanford can be dangerous at home (google USC @ Stanford: 2007)

Keenum leads the nation in both passing yds and passing touchdowns. He has a huge test this week at Tulsa. If he can pull out a win, his name will move toward the top of other Heisman Boards

Vegas put the line at Baltimore giving points for a reason. They are coming back healthy after a bye week and whooping up on 6-0 at the time Denver. This is the kind of game that Baltimore wins and Cincy looses.

Houston @ Indianapolis (-9)
ESPN has been saying "this is the biggest game in Texans history!" I will agree under 1 circumstance, they win. If they do, Houston will be 3 games over .500 (6-3) ever. Within 1.5 games of the division and at the forefront of the wild-card race. Can they slow down Peyton. (Bonus fun fact: Houston leads the NFL in defensive 3 and outs)

Miami @ New England (-10.5)
The Wildcat is dwindling and exposing holes in the Miami defense. They only gained 104 yrds out of the "cat" last week against NY. Brady will expose a porous Dolphins D, control the clock with long drives and run away with this game.

San Diego @ NY Giants (-4.5)
2 surprisingly struggling teams this year face off in chilly New Jersey. As I have stated before, this was my projection for the Super Bowl... (whoops!) Now each is fighting for their playoff lives. Weather could be a huge factor in this game.

Dallas @ Philadelphia (-3)
5-2 vs. 5-2. The Cowboys have crept back into the NFC East with a favorable schedule. (at KC, Atl, Sea) The Eagles blew a game in Oakland and should be 6-1 right now, with their lone loss to undefeated New Orleans. Just like Cincy-Balt, this is the kind of game that Philly wins and Dallas looses.

Pittsburgh @ Denver (+3)
Huge game jockeying for position in the AFC. Denver got destroyed by Baltimore last week. They still have Philadelphia, SD, NY Giants and Indianapolis left on their schedule. They need this game more than they think.

Weekly Predictions: Week 8

This has been a season of steam rolling. There were 6 games decided by 28 points or more last week. Vegas said it took its biggest hit on record because of so many blow outs.
Tough week for picks this week though. There are some actual good games in the NFL. I am loving the road teams in college.

NCAA: (picks in bold. Home team in CAPS)
VIRGINIA TECH (-16.5) over Unc: NC has been terrible this year, and things are not gonna get better in Blacksburg.
Wvu (-3) over SOUTH FLORIDA: A promising South Florida looked very pedestrian getting blown out by Pitt last week. WVU will not make the same mistake it did last week, taking a weaker opponent lightly.
Cincinnati (-16.5) over SYRACUSE: They can't wait to start playing basketball games in the Carrier Dome in up-state New York.
Central Michigan (+6) over BOSTON COLLEGE: I got LeFevour.... and the only prescription.... is more David LeFevour.
Duke (+7) over VIRGINIA: I was in Charlottesville on Halloween for a home game 3 years ago... not that intimidating.
Indiana (+17.5) over IOWA: Iowa can't seem to blow anybody out. They are 2 seconds from loosing the Big 10. They will win, but not by more than 17.
NC State (+9) over FLORIDA ST: 2 highly inconsistent teams. Who knows what will happen so I take the points.
Georgia Tech (-11.5) over VANDERBILT: Tech will run for at least 300 yards this game.
Ole Miss (-4) over AUBURN: The Tigers have gotten progressively worse after an awesome start.
Georgia (+15) over Florida: The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will be close as long as Georgia doesn't turn the ball over and let the game get away from them. Florida's offense is still struggling and Tebow is looking not-so-divine anymore.
Cal (-6.5) over ARIZONA ST: Cal came back strong after that 2 game embarrassment against Oregon and USC. They will continue this as Javid Best gets his feet back under him.
Michigan (-7) over ILLINOIS: Zookville is the worst team in the Big 10 not in the state of Indiana.
OKLAHOMA ST (+9) over Texas: This game will come down to QB play. McCoy has not looked great this year despite a good week last week.
Penn State (-14.5) over NORTHWESTERN: PSU went to the Big House and proved they are a team to be reckoned with despite the cake schedule.
FRESNO ST (-17) over Utah State: Fresno has the nations leading rusher. Expect 200 yards.

Miss St. (+3.5) over KENTUCKY: Miss State has played both Florida and LSU tough this year. Kentucky was down by 30 after the first quarter against Florida.
South Carolina (+5.5) over TENNESSEE: The under for this game is set at 40 for a reason. No offense means close game.
OREGON (+3) over Usc: Game of the week: This game has so many BCS implications its ridiculous. Eugene is one of the hardest places in the country to play.
Michigan St. (-3.5) over MINNESOTA: Michigan St.= good. Minnesota = bad.

Pick of the week:
WISCONSIN (-6.5) over Purdue: Don't think I am fooled by a win against Ohio State, Purdue.
HOUSTON (-6.5) over Southern Miss: Farve's college team will have a tough time on the road against the Heisman candidate.

Denver (+3.5) over BALTIMORE: This is gonna be a field goal game.
CHICAGO (-13) over Cleveland: Chicago needs to come out and roll a bad team, just like they did to Detroit earlier this year.
Houston (-3.5) over BUFFALO: Buffalo's offense is not good enough to keep up with Matt Schaub and the Texans' explosive offense.
GREEN BAY (-3) over Minnesota: I just don't think the Pack will let Favre come in and take this. Too much riding on this game.
INDIANAPOLIS (-12) over San Francisco: This is an awfully high line for this game, but Matt Ryan torched SF's secondary, and NOONE can stop Peyton Manning so far this year.
Miami (+3.5) over NY JETS: Miami is gonna deviate some from the wildcat and throw some 4 wide on them.
DETROIT (-3) over St. Louis: Detroit has more talent and they are at home.
Seattle (+9.5) over DALLAS: This is the kind of "let-down" game that Dallas has every year. Remember when Steven Jackson ran for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns. Trap game last year. Trap game this year.
SAN DIEGO (-16.5) over Oakland: This is just an easy one to see coming. Second straight blow out for the Charger offense.
Jacksonville (+3) over TENNESSEE: Look for the pair of hyphens, Mike Sims-Walker and Maurice Jones-Drew, to tear up that terrible secondary.
ARIZONA (-10) over Carolina: Cards picked off Eli 3 times last week. Look for 3 more against "Jakey Jakey About to Make ANOTHER Big Mistaky" Delhomme.
NY Giants (NL) over PHILADELPHIA: Philly has a lot of holes on that offensive line that the Giants pass rush will expose. Westbrook is probably hurt still too.
NEW ORLEANS (-10) over Atlanta: This could become a shoot out, and New Orleans has proved it's defense can stop good offenses. Atlanta has not.

Gerogia Tech (-5) over VIRGINIA: Tech is a much better team.
MIAMI (FL) (-7) over Clemson: Clemson sucks and has to travel to Miami. This line should be higher.
Central Michigan (-8) over BOWLING GREEN: Maybe I have swine flu, because I have got LeFevour.
South Florida (+6.5) over PITT: I dont think Pitt is a touchdown better than the Bulls. Look for that solid SFU defense to keep this game close.
WEST VIRGINIA (-7.5) over Uconn: Tough week in Storres is not gonna get any better with a trip to Morgantown.
SOUTH CAROLINA (-13) over Vanderbilt: The other USC plays some solid defense, especially at home.
Oklahoma St. (-9.5) over BAYLOR: There is no one on Balyor that can move the ball.
Alabama (-14) over TENNESSEE: Expect Alabama to show how much better they are than Florida. Look for their defense to score 2 touchdowns against the Vols terrible QBs.
Oregon (-9.5) over WASHINGTON: Oregon continues its dominance of the PAC-10 this year.
MICHIGAN (+4.5) over Penn State: The Lions have had trouble in the Big House in recent years. Their defense will keep them close, in a low scoring game in cool rainy Ann Arbor.
ARIZONA (-7.5) over Ucla: Zona QB Nick Foles has been great recently.
Louisville (+18) over CINCINNATI: Loves the Bearcats, but not when Pike doesn't play. If he does, flip this pick.
MISSISSIPPI Sy (+22.5) over Florida: I am still not sold on Florida yet. They win on the road, but not big.
HOUSTON (-16) over Smu: My man-crush on Case Keenum continues. Look for him to put up big numbers on a poor SMU squad.
Auburn (+7) over LSU: Auburn has struggled the last 2 weeks offensively, but they bounce back in Baton Rouge.

Alabama (-16) over KENTUCKY: Alabama is the best team in the country right now. They are amazing on defense, and have a good QB and good running game as well. They are the Balitmore Ravens of college football right now.
Cincinnati (-28.5) over MIAMI (OH.): Good teams should blow out bad teams. Cincinnati is a good team.
Virginia Tech (-16.5) over DUKE: Duke is just terrible.
GEORGIA (-3) over Lsu: LSU almost lost at Mississippi St. last week if not for a punt return and a luckily deflected ball on the goal line. Georgia is a better team with better home field advantage. Georgia has a thing for winning close games this year. Vegas set this line to push, and I think it will.
MIAMI (FL) (+7) over Oklahoma: Bradford will not start. Miami's defense is not Idaho St. A freshman QB will not do well.
Penn State (-7) over ILLINOIS: Ohio State beat the Illini 30-0 and have no offense.
Michigan (+2) over MICHIGAN ST: How is State a favorite in this game? They have been terrible this year.

Dallas (-3) over DENVER: This is another good line by Vegas. This will probably push. Dallas's #1 rush offense (193.7 yrds/game) against Denver's #7 rush defense (78.3 yrds/game). Something has to give
San Diego (+6.5) over PITTSBURGH: Scoring difference of all 3 Steelers game this year: won by 3, lost by 3, lost by 3. Scoring difference of all 3 Chargers games this year: won by 4, lost by 5, won by 10. No way the final score clears a touchdown.
Green Bay (+3.5) over MINNESOTA: Green Bay leads the NFL in takeaways and they are about to play Brett Favre. As long as they keep Peterson in check, they should take this game.

1) There are not a lot of spreads that jump off the sheet to me. It appears Vegas has no idea what to do with some of these teams.
2) 8 games with a spread of 6 points or more in the NFL. We will see how many actually cover.
3) Schools are getting too much credit. A lot of big spreads in NCAA's this weekend that should not be.
4) Until Colt McCoy gets his shit together, I don't trust Texas giving points. As cute as a diet of PB&J and Pedialyte is to recover, my pocket doesn't care.
5) Beware of home underdogs, especially in-conference. Always a standard to watch.

Minnesota (-9.5) over DETROIT: The only way the Lions keep this close, is if Minnesota runs it the entire second half and kills the clock.

JACKSONVILLE (-3) over Arizona: Will Arizona really start 0-2. I say yes. Expect to see Matt Leinart by week 10.
Seattle (+1.5) over SAN FRANCISCO: The Niners are a strong defense with a good running game. This game will come down to QB play and Hasselbeck is the much better QB.
BUFFALO (-5) over Tampa Bay: This would be much more certain a pick if this game was in December and it was -25 degrees out. I am sold on Buffalo as a better team then originally anticipated, especially the defense. T.O. is already working on imploding this team so I guess it is better this game is not in December.
Baltimore (+3) over SAN DIEGO: Chargers starting center is hurt. L.T. is banged up. Now the other Big East Bruiser (Ray Rice) is going to make his mark against this defense.
Pittsburgh (-3) over Chicago: Cutler was a disaster under Green Bay's pressure. That happens to be Pittsburgh's speciality.
NY Giants (+3) over Dallas: Romo might of have a good day, but that was against a completely gutted Tampa D. He is gonna be on his back all night (and not with some chick riding him). Dallas's "good defense" gave up 450 yards to Tampa Bay. 450 YARDS!!! Expect 130 and 2 touches out of Brandon Jacobs.

Before I get into this, something occurred to me today. 2009 has, by far, been the best sports year of my life. A list of things that have happened since the clock struck midnight on 2008.

1) Penn State played in the Rose Bowl (too bad they got curb-stomped)
2) The Steelers won the Super Bowl (which won be $80)
3) UNC won the Basketball National Championship. (my favorite team and I won $40 buck on Michigan St. making the finals)
4) Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby (which won be $500 on 50-1 odds)
5) The Penguins won the Stanley Cup (which won me $120)

The only thing that could make this year better:
1) A good season for the Steelers
2) My 2 favorite athletes having career ending injuries: Ray Lewis and Tim Tebow. Call me old fashioned, but I just can't stand those overrated cock suckers.

It has finally arrived. The football season is here (fuck preseason). College Football got off to a fighting start with a sucker punch in last nights Oregon-Boise State game. Both games from last night were very sloppy but we will see how it continues this weekend.

Mizzou (+6.5) over Illinois. Juice Williams may the the most overrated QB in Division 1.
Ok (-22) over BYU. Unless the Mormons pull something out of their ass, Oklahoma will be doing everything they can to run up the score on a ranked opponent.
VA Tech (+6.5) over Alabama. Alabama lost most of it offensive line and the Hokies will be giving them fits all day in the trenches. Bama is at home so they will probably win, but not by a touchdown.
LSU(-18) over Wash St. LSU had the best recruiting class and return a lot of people from last year. They will be making a run for SEC West with Ole Miss.
Ole Miss(-17) over Memphis. Mississippi has the best true QB in the SEC. The line has moved a full point in the last few days. Seems like everyone is loving Ole Miss.
Rutgers(-5) over Cincinnati. The Bearcats lost a lot of people from last year's Big East Champs. Rutgers had a down year last year, but should be better this year. This game could easily decide who will play in the Orange Bowl this year.
Fl St(-6.5) over Miami. Miami is still rebuilding and can't seem to keep their players out of jail. Florida St. got smacked up with some sanctions as well, but they are the better squad.
